Why the Government Shut Down is Good

Strange as it may sound I am actually glad for the United States government shut down, and I blame NEITHER party. For those who do not know the Republican party of the United States in the House proposed for 2014 and told the Democratic party they will not accept the budget while it pays for “Obamacare.” The Republican’s then responded by claiming they will not pass any budget funding “Obamacare.”

This is the product of democracy, the budget requires to be passed by each branch of the government before taking effect, enabling majority party from taking control of the budget unless they maintain all of the different branches of government. In this case Republicans, disagree with the Democrats on how to fix the healthcare system and the Democrats refused to negotiate and passed “Obamacare” regardless of Republican shouts of “nay!” Now it is the Republican’s turn to get what they want, a closer to balanced budget and more choices in healthcare (that wont in their eyes cost a ridiculous amount). Republican’s are using their majority in the House to keep the budget stalled until the Democrats renegotiate (which President Obama claimed he would not do).

Therefore, we are at an impasse. On one side we have a political party that wishes to have a balanced budget (or attempt to have a balanced budget) on the other side we have a party which is attempting to decrease the cost of healthcare per individual (coming from a Healthcare industry background, that is not going to happen). Both are noble goals, and to be honest I hope the Republicans succeed for democracy, they need both parties to negotiate and if the Republicans give in we essentially will only have a one party system…

** DISCLAIMER **: I am not a Republican or a Democrat, I disagree with both parties on key issues and am closer to a Libertarian than anything, yet I disagree with some of their stances as well. I would actually consider myself a true Liberal.

  1. ‘For those who do not know the Republican party of the United States in the House voted down the budget for 2014 and told the Democratic party they will not accept the budget while it pays for “obamacare.”’

This is not true. Based on reading your words, someone might think that the Democrats proposed a budget and then the Republicans voted it down. But in fact, the opposite is true: The Republicans proposed the budget, and then the Democrats voted it down.

All spending bills originate in the House of Representatives, which is currently Republican-controlled. Therefore, the budget originated with the Republicans, who sent it on to the Senate. It was the Democratic Senate who then voted down the budget.

I’m not accusing you of taking sides, and I agree that both sides suck. But this is the truth of the matter.
